Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act 1956

The Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956 declares and codifies the law with regard to adoptions and maintenance by Hindus. The basis of such moral and legal duty to maintain wives, children, widowed daughter in law, and aged parents is a scared obligation of Hindus as held in Sageeta Piyush Raj Versus Piyush Chaturbhuj Raj, AIR 1998 BOM 151 by our own Hon'ble Supreme Court.
